Going Pro Once More

I am deep in the throes of thesis work but I couldn’t resist this super quick update.

All Backed Up

I know, I know. I have been neglecting posting anything. Truth be told, I missed doing something else aside from being online all day, so I tried enjoying the outdoors for the past week or so. But I’ve been itching to blog again, so I’m just going to recap everything significant that happened the past week in one go.

This was an unfortunate day for us. We didn’t get in AT ALL. The shindig started at 1pm, and when we got there by 3, they weren’t letting anyone go in anymore.

We met up with  Lauren and Chris, and we togehter waited in vain.

Lando and Lauren in matching Deviruchi hats.

We saw a few Arki batchmates in line as well!

In the end, we just ended up watching Due Date with Faye and Jaja instead. We had an impromptu sleepover at our condo as well. Not quite the day I expected, but I guess we made the best of it.

I already posted this last night, but  I think it deserves a non-ranty description.

Lando and I decided to go buy dinner at the kanto of our street where there are loads of stalls selling all kinds of street food. I had been craving for some Scramble ever since I saw it the other day, and I finally got to eat some! Yum yum!

We also ate siomai and Yakisoba, Lando’s current addiction.

Not very healthy I know, but we just needed to shake things up a bit.

I have a very loose schedule this semester, with only 9 units, so it’s no surprise that I’ll get a lot of free time, which I know I’ll need for thesis. But today, both my classes were cancelled. I had to go to our scheduled yearbook meeting though, and went jogging with Lando.

We ate at Cibola where we used the power of the almighty PowerCard to get ourselves free iced tea.

Aah, it’s so nice to have a kit lens to use for camwhoring again. (Thanks Daddy!)

I don’t know if it’s because I crammed everything into this short, breezy entry, but somehow the past days don’t seem as exciting as I thought they were.

This should teach me a lesson: BLOG EARLIER!

Tomorrow, I shall try my best to post some of the outfits I wore for the past week or so, including this micro mini impromptu photo shoot I had with Lando this afternoon! :)

EDIT: I might put them in three separate posts! :)

Really big chicken nugget in the house!

Meet the newest member of the family.

Guess how big he is.

1. He can fit Lando’s hard toy gift in his mouth.

2. He can wear my Domo pendant as his own necklace.

Yup. We saw the mother of all Domos a while ago in Trinoma. And because Lando is the sweetest (albeit a bit impulsive) boy in the whole entire universe, he bought it for me!

Well, no he didn’t exactly buy it for me, because I sort of insisted I would pay him back in installments, with my deadline being Christmas season. If I fail to pay him back when it rolls around, it automatically becomes his advanced Christmas present for me, therefore absolving him of all obligations to go holiday shopping for me.

I am going to try my hardest to pay him back ASAP because… I really want a Christmas present. But I was sincerely about to cry when he handed over to me the absurdly large canvas bag with Domo inside.

IMGP0016 Every other Domo of mine just pales in comparison, literally, because it’s a bit browner than them, except for that Domo I nicked at Asaphil’s tambayan. He just looks like a really overcooked chicken nugget.

This Domo is a bit arrogant though.

He still has his tag on and he’s already fighting me for use of the computer.

I’m excited to sleep tonight! I have something other than my pillow to hug! :3

P.S. Leonard Jeriano Cusi, if I were to choose someone to hug between you and giant Domo-kun, you will still win hands down. I <3 you! :D

Two Guys, A Girl, and One Thesis-free Weekend

Thank you guys! I love you both! (in very different ways HEHEHE)

Getting Rid of Pesky Desktop Icons the Old School Way

For the longest time now, there have been a few files on my desktop that I haven’t been able to get rid of with the normal delete or send to Recycle Bin function.  No matter how hard I tried, Windows 7 kept on saying “This file cannot be found. Please try again.” Or something to that effect. I tried everything from renaming, cutting and pasting, to downloading programs that various forums said would help, but all to no avail.

Then my brother had what I would like to call a stroke of sheer genius. “ Why not try using MS-DOS command prompt?”

This was how my desktop looked like. Take note of the two files encircled. They were actually broken files left from incomplete downloads in the past.

I opened up command prompt. It opens up in the directory C:\Users\Allie\>. If you’re trying this now, it will probably be C:\Users\your username\>. Here’s what you do next.

command prompt

1. Type cd desktop to go to the Desktop subdirectory.

2. Type del *.* and you will be prompted with a message “Are you sure (Y/N)?

Note: Type Y only if you want to remove ALL the contents of your desktop (excluding the Recycle Bin). If you only have a file or two to remove, replace “*.*” with ‘”filename.extension”.

After that, close Command Prompt and those stubborn files should be gone from your life forever!

step 3

Who knew that an entire semester of studying nothing else but MS-DOS prompt would actually pay off? Now if this whole architecture thing doesn’t work out, alam ko na ang iraraket ko!

A little randomness never hurt anyone

Thesis is starting to consume me. Ever since we began doing our draft proposals, I have neglected to do writing of any other sort. It was draining to say the least, trying to come up with a lot of hokey just to show that what we plan to busy ourselves with for the rest of the year is actually worth doing. Now draft proposals are back in our hands, ready to be tweaked and refined according to our faculty’s comments (or in some cases, lack thereof).

I refuse to believe that thesis means potential death of my blog. Though still very young at barely four months old, I have a conviction that I will persist in my writing, as it really is the only output I have aside from drawing. Once upon a time, I’ve even had grand plans that I will maintain both my blog AND my Tumblr, AND my twitter, but I must be getting really old, because I’ve failed in that attempt so far.

Granted, who’s to say that I’m not having fun during my thesis year? Though the work is tough, it’s great to have friends that can help you make your work a little less difficult and a little more fun.

Microsoft OneNote is one of them.

There are people who can get by with unorganized notes inserted randomly into notebooks, scraps of paper and whatnot, while some are hardcore and have the neatest notes broken up into the strictest of sections. I tend to be a hybrid of these two groups, as though I want everything organized to some degree, I still want room for drawing and doodles and whatnot. So it’s just so great that in OneNote, I can do both, AND MORE! :)

onenote1   I have an entire OneNote Notebook dedicated to thesis, and as you can see I’ve broken down the data I’ve collected so far into different sections. (Take note of the section “Random Shit”.)

onenote4  I get bored easily while I’m doing all that typing, so I doodle when I get stuck. And yes, it sometimes leads to kalandian like this when Lando and I are doing work together. Forgive us please.

onenote2  It also provides good entertainment for classes where we want to draw but also want to save paper. (READ: ARCH173).

onenote3  Weirdly enough, this is currently the only program I have that can detect pen pressure.

So far, I have currently endorsed both Windows Live Writer and Microsoft OneNote on this blog. They should really start paying me.

I’ve been having some trouble sleeping at night for the past few weeks. Sometimes, I would wake up at odd times like 3 or 4AM and cannot get back to sleep. At first, I would get really pissed off and then the rest of my day would just be a blur of bad moods and frowns, but I decided to just make good use of the time I stay awake. And because of that, I finally got to finish Lucky Star! :D

Lucky Star is the ultimate anime for the sabaw. With no distinct story arc, cute characters, and surprisingly witty dialogue, it provided me with just the kind of entertainment I needed whenever I felt stressed or soup-like.

12 This is still one of my favorite scenes. Konata-chan kawaii! :3

And for Dragonball fans, this will certainly be a hoot. One of my favorite endings ever. XD

This is about all the posting I can do for now. But before I forget, here’s one last photo (para sa isa dyang masama ang pakiramdam)

Two Days of Geekiness

-someone’s shirt I saw a while back

This all started yesterday, after yet another mind numbing PI100 class (5/10 quiz WTH). Having quite a bit of time to kill on that Friday afternoon, I decided to have an internet hunt of one of my favorite stuff to search about ever, Star Wars. In particular, Star Wars shirts. Then I stumbled upon this particular gem:

ANG GAGANDA NG SHIRTS GRABE! I want one so badly! The only Star Wars shirt I have is this green one I got from AM BLVD a while back, and all it has is “I <3 Star Wars” on it. And even that shirt is missing right now, I have yet to get it back from where I left it. But I want cool, I want witty, I want funny!

Here are some of them:

Mike Walkers

Feeling ko ipapagawa namin ito.

It was also the opening of Kick Ass last night, so we decided to catch the last full show at Eastwood. (Haha if my mom is reading this, I will stress that I am not overbudget with my baon so you have nothing to worry about). Having not heard of the Marvel comic book or the movie itself until we saw posters of it in theaters last week, we came into the movie with low/no expectations whatsoever, and were pleasantly surprised because of it. It is actually one of the better movies I have watched recently, and dare I say, I enjoyed it better than Clash of the Titans, which I now conclude as a so-so movie. It was funny but not slapstick, dramatic but not overly so, and action-packed enough to keep me entertained for the two and a half hour duration of the film. But what can I say, I always enjoy a good superhero movie. SULIT NA SULIT. (You can decide for yourself if you think this is worth your time and money by reading its synopsis here.)

Red Mist aka yung kabuhok ni Lando

Clearly not satisfied yet, we also headed over to Komikon Summer Fiesta 2010, held today  at The Bahay ng Alumni. This is my third time to attend a comic convention, and the 2nd time to attend Komikon. It bugged me a little that I didn’t get to buy the stuff I really wanted because I couldn’t afford, like the latest Kikomachine from Manix, the long-wanted Martial Law Babies by Arre, or this really cool compilation from different komik artists entitled Renaissance. I must remember to save up for events like these because they only happen a couple of times a year. Gladly, I was still able to drop by Michael David’s booth and grab myself a copy of the 2nd issue of the compilation! Head on over to the site to check them out, although I warn you, they aren’t exactly G-rated Oo, ako na ang natatawa sa bastos.

Lando, on the other hand, bought Gatekeepers 1 and 2 DVDs which I am really excited for since I haven’t been able to watch that series since high school and they don’t have any manga either. And he scored Apol Sta. Maria’s Ang Alamat ng Panget, which had us in stitches seconds into reading the first page.

It sucked that I had no camera this time to document the day, we didn’t get to take photos of the many, many cool stuff we saw. I must charge my batteries soon.

My haul: Kubori Kikiam Vol. 1 and 2, Apoy and Apoy 2 by Oko Francisco

Lando's haul: Gatekeepers 1 & 2 DVDs and Alamat ng Panget and Many Other by Apol Sta. Maria. (Note: These aren't the actual stuff, hindi ko nakunan ng photos yung kanya haha)

And to top it all off, the pièce de résistance to affirming my geek lifestyle, here I am at home on a Saturday night, with only my sleeping brother, my laptop, and wireless internet to keep me company. Oh well. I can’t have everything can I.

Allie has seen many a dust bunny in her lifetime, most of them in her dorm room. She is often mistaken as a 13-year old, further intensified by her weird fashion choices that mostly involve cutesy patootsie rings, colorful knee high socks, and ribbons and bows in her hair. She dreams of waking up one day and finding herself as a character in Star Wars. Preferably a jedi. With a purple lightsaber.
